Old Standard Update

I know it's been awhile, but thought I would check back in with the blog and give a quick update on things here at Old Standard. We just got a fresh batch of logs in (both Maple and Spruce), so we've been working through the logs as weather allows. (Raining here about every day...feels like the Northwest!) Speaking of Maple, check out the picture above of a particularly fine Red Maple log we worked up a few months ago. Super-nice figure...like you hardly ever see. We knew it was something special as soon as we took a bit of the bark off and got a good look at it. Also, we've gotten a good response from the new website. Seems everyone is enjoying the added pictures and extra info. Anyway, that's the news for now. Thanks for visiting...

Customer Feedback

We recently shipped out an Adirondack top and bracewood to a customer in Spain, and he responded so enthusiastically that we thought we would post his response on the blog. As we mention on the website, we take quality and attention to detail very seriously at Old Standard, so we're always happy to get feedback like this. Thanks to luthier John Evans for the kind words!

"Great wood! I jointed the tops today. They are fantastic and the brace wood is really hard and is split properly down the grain. I appreciate what you guys are doing! You are keeping the real origins of good AMERICAN guitar making alive! Rave on! This Adirondack knocks spots off the European Spruce and that comes from an English (i.e. European) guy!"

New Pics

Here is one of the standouts from our latest batch of Collings Guitars. How much of a standout is it, you might ask? Well being a 12-fret kind of guy, John's decided it's a "keeper". Not to worry though, we've got a wide selection of guitars available that stack up to it quite nicely, including a recently added custom-built Merrill. Check out our "Instruments For Sale" page at http://www.adirondackspruce.com/ for more info.

New OS Website Is Up!

After weeks of of work, the new Old Standard website is up and available for viewing at www.adirondackspruce.com. We're still working through a few kinks, but please check it out and let us know what you think. We've added tons of new pictures and info, so it's already light years ahead of our previous "dinosaur" website. More to come soon...

OS Update

Finally checking back in with the blog. Things have been busy here at Old Standard as we have been working our way through our latest batch of Adirondack logs, so needless to say, my computer time has been limited. Also, a quick piece of news, coming soon in the near future....a new OS website! We're hoping to begin working on it in the next week or so, so please keep in touch with the blog for more info on that. It will still be at www.adirondackspruce.com. That's all for now...more to come soon.

Curly Maple Sample

We were milling through some maple recently to fill some orders and stumbled upon this archtop guitar set. The minute we planed it, we knew we were onto something special, so we grabbed a camera and snapped a shot of it. Keep in mind that this is straight off the planer, no varnish or finish at all...really spectacular curl.

Martin Guitar Wood Summit

Last month, John and I headed up to Nazareth, PA for the 2nd CF Martin Wood Summit. It was good to reconnect with some of our fellow wood vendors, and we even snuck off for a bit to check out the Martin museum. Definitely an impressive collection, and we were happy to see that Adirondack Spruce was well represented. Here's a couple pics from the day, including one of our fearless leader next to Martin's millionth guitar.
